So Sunday night. What amazingness. I was a little, well massively hungover and sleep deprived after Codes and co in ALT the previous night, and my brother Davey had just arrived, so appearing at soundcheck was painful, but the minute I saw those lovely chirpy Belfastians hanging around the stage door of the Whelans smoking area, I thought, ah cop the fuck on, this is what it’s all about. And it is.
Watching all three bands sound check was a treat in itself. It’s hard to encapsulate what lovely and pretty hilarious guys ASIWYFA really are. Rory arrives over with one of the new album tshirts for me as they set up the merch, wow this is gonna be a special night I figure. The place is pretty packed out by the time Enemies arrive on stage, after punters flowed the minute the doors opened. Eagerness to get involved in this particular post rock experience was paramount. Word had obviously spread after the November show. Enemies surprised me, very engaging stuff… and Maybeshewill with a fantastic girl bassist. Ace.
By the time ASIWYFA came on stage, the place was mental with anticipation. Sheer untapped energy flowed from the entire performance. Every leap from the stage was wrapped tightly in an immense enthusiasm and passion for those tunes. The audience was in rapture. Sell out gig, so all bands were sent on their merry way with some cash too. I’m pretty sure that I’ll not be able to have these guys in this intensely small venue when they return later in the year. To bigger and better things they proceed, starting with an intense 29 date tour of these general parts and continuing on to Europe and… the World!
Then I saw the album sleeve… I got a fricken mention! Does it get any better than this my friends?! What a night. Oh and Nay and the ClubAC30 shoes
Onwards and upwards to the next one… a very different affair on Whelans main stage on Friday, 26th June with Alias Empire, Le Galaxie and Percolator.
And a good few more random ClubAC30 ideas and plans on the horizon. Shur don’t I love to be scheming.
Classy Nay and her beautiful shoes. Ah.
